We stopped for a look around while passing through the area, seemed like a really nice park! Sadly we didn't have time to hike any of the trails, but it looked like there was a lot to do!
Really loved this place! Following Google Map took us to the Southeast corner of the park nearest the damn. Highly recommend this area
Hunted and fished my whole life. Clean restrooms , nice camping area and lots of trails.
Everyone that has grown up in and around Athens wish there was the funds to keep the overgrowth cut down. It's kind of sad to see a once beautiful place now so overgrown that there isn't even the softball field or fishing areas left.
For hiking. Really enjoyed the trails! We later drove around to the beach and it was nice too. This is where boat rentals are available but too chilly on our visit.
Did self check-in after dark. The brochures available with the registration packets did not include a park map, nor was there one on display. Also there was no cell service so we couldn't look it up. No water or electric hookup sites we could find. Not every site had a picnic table. However, the slab was level and the camping area was really pretty the next morning. Spent only one night there. As on 9/2017 there was road construction blocking major way into park with a detour thru some rough, bumpy road.
